MoU signing between Dairy Science Park and Konya Teknokent Turkey supervised by Chairman PARC
A team of Dairy Science Park comprising Prof M Subhan Qureshi, Chief Patron Dairy Science Park (DSP), University of Agriculture, Peshawar; Engr Irfan Qureshi President, Dr Waqas Alam Consultant and Dr Mithat Direk Focal Point (Turkey) DSP, Dr Khalid Bashir and Dr Asghar Ali called on the Chairman PARC Dr Yousaf Zafar and Member Animal Science Dr Johar Ali, to sign an MoU between the Dairy Science Park Peshawar and Konya Teknokent Turkey and explore further collaborations.
The Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) was briefed on the Dairy Science Park, initiated at the University of Agriculture Peshawar during November 2011 as the first conference and industrial exhibition, continued during November 2013 and 2015 at Peshawar and 2017 at Konya. The Fourth International Conference and Industrial Exhibition of DSP at Konya, Turkey was held on November 1-5, 2017. The delegates visited Konya Teknokent on invitation of Dr Birol, Head of the organization, facilitated by Dr Mehmet Tanyer. Konya Teknokent is being utilized as the business incubation wing of Selcuk University, working as an autonomous body with the cooperation of the Konya Metropolitan Corporation, the chamber of commerce and industries and other partners.
DSP has been working as a registered society with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, facilitating linkages between the academia, private sector, government departments and development organizations. International linkages have been established with Sandia National Laboratories USA for collaboration in Biorisk Management (BRM) Curriculum Development. Five international workshops were held at Amsterdam, Dubai, Phuket, Bangkok and Colobmo in collaboration with various Universities and development/private sector organizations, including Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council. The curriculum of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree was reviewed and contents were developed for incorporation into DVM curriculum.
Under collaboration with the Konya Teknokent and Dairy Science Park, TechnoParks will be established with leading roles of various Universities, as their business promotion wings. The Vice Chancellors of Baluchistan University Quetta, Women University Mardan and Swat University Swat agreed on establishing Quetta/Mardan/Swat TechnoPark, in collaboration with Dairy Science Park, the provincial governments and the respective Chambers of Commerce and Industries.
The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on recommendation of the Senior Minister Local Government, has approved a Task Force on Dairy Science Park to promote establishment of business models for creating self employment for the youth and hygienic/Halal food for local consumption and export. The redundant assets in the public and private sectors would be revived and utilized for peoples welfare. Regulations and legislations would be made to provide relief to the producers, processors, service providers and marketing partners across food value chain.
The Chairman PARC appreciated the collaboration between the Pakistani and Turkish organizations, especially hosting of the Fifth International Conference and Industrial Exhibition by Selcuk University Konya and the collaboration between Konya Teknokent and Dairy Science Park and joint project with the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, UVAS Lahore and PMAS University Rawalpindi, initiated during DSP 2015 at Peshawar.
The Chairman assured support of PARC in implementation of these activities and suggested that an MoU may be signed between PARC and counterpart ministry of Turkey. Dr Mithat Direk desired that a team of Turkish students would be sent soon for internship at NARC facilities in Islamabad. Dr Johar Ali facilitated these meetings which was acknowledged with thanks by the DSP delegates.
